New York Lottery Introduces Double Play to Powerball

New York lottery players now have a brand-new way to win big. The NY Lottery has officially introduced Double Play, an exciting add-on feature that gives Powerball tickets a second lease on life during every drawing night.

Tickets featuring the Double Play option officially launched on June 2, just in time for the June 3 drawing. Across the first three drawings, thousands of lucky New Yorkers have already secured payouts.

About Double Play

Double Play is an optional feature that you can add to your regular Powerball ticket for an extra $1 per play (it cannot be purchased on its own).

Your existing Powerball numbers are automatically entered into a separate, second-chance drawing. You don't need to select a new set of numbers. Double Play drawings happen on the same nights as the main Powerball game.

While it features the same nine prize tiers as the main game, Double Play actually offers higher payouts for six of those tiers. The Double Play jackpot is locked at a fixed $10 million for every single drawing. The Power Play multiplier does not apply to Double Play prizes.

Double Play originally debuted in 13 states back in August 2021 and has steadily expanded across the country. New York is the 28th jurisdiction to adopt the feature, with Arizona scheduled to join the lineup later this June.

Power Wednesdays

To celebrate the New York launch, the NY Lottery is rolling out a special "Power Wednesdays" promotion running from June 3 through July 29.

During this window, anyone who buys a standard Powerball ticket has a random chance to score a free $3 Powerball with Double Play ticket at the time of purchase. The lottery plans to give away roughly 650,000 of these free bonus tickets throughout the summer promotion.

Three Chances to Win Every Week

Powerball and Double Play drawings take place three times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. With the main Powerball jackpot currently sitting at $238 million, there’s never been a better time to play.
