California Player Wins Record $2 Billion Powerball Jackpot

California Player Wins Record $2 Billion Powerball Jackpot

The latest Powerball drawing proved to be a record-breaker, as a single player from California won a jackpot worth more than $2 billion. It is the largest prize ever to have been paid out on any lottery in the world.

After a considerable delay, the Powerball drawing scheduled for Monday November 7 eventually took place several hours later. The winning numbers were 10, 33, 41, 47 and 56, with a Powerball of 10.

The jackpot for Monday’s drawing was initially estimated at $1.9 billion, following 40 consecutive draws without a winner. The final figure turned out to be $2.04 billion, after a widespread rush for tickets across the U.S.

There were even reports of many residents from the non-participating states - Utah, Nevada, Hawaii, Alaska and Alabama - crossing borders to pick up their own entries. It was the high demand for tickets that led to one lottery failing to process its sales and player data in time, forcing the delay.

In the end, a single line matched all six numbers to create lottery history, among a total of more than 11.2 million winning tickets. Find out more about all the Powerball Payouts, including a breakdown of all the prizes won in your state.

Biggest-Ever Jackpot

The lucky ticket holder from California goes straight to the top of the list of biggest winners, having landed nearly $500 million more than the previous record amount - the $1.58 billion that was divided between three winning tickets in January 2016.

All eyes will now turn towards California to find out more about the winner, although they may not come forward immediately. The claim period is one year in the Golden State.

Another big decision the winner will have to make is whether to take the annuity or the cash option, which was worth $997 million.

Even if you didn’t land the jackpot this time, there are eight other ways to win prizes and you can check your numbers now to find out if you’re due a payout.

The next drawing on Wednesday will offer a jackpot of $20 million. You can take part now, and view the winning numbers as soon as they are available.
