West Virginia Powerball Winner Due $136 Million Payout

The latest West Virginia Powerball winner has $136.4 million waiting for them when they come forward, after matching all five main numbers and the Powerball on Wednesday June 3. The West Virginia Lottery is yet to announce details of the location from which the winner bought their ticket, leading to a wave of excitement across the Mountain State.

When they make contact with the West Virginia Lottery, the lucky ticket holder will have a big decision to make. They could opt for the full $136.4 million in 30 graduated payments over 29 years or choose to take a cash lump sum. The latter option is thought to be worth $108 million before taxes.

Winning Powerball Numbers for Wednesday June 3 2020

The winning Powerball numbers for the drawing on Wednesday June 3 2020 were 1, 3, 26, 41, 64 with Powerball 17. The Power Play, which boosts lower-tier prizes of anyone who opts into it when they buy their ticket, was 2x. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to access more information about the draw.

The nine-figure top prize was a result of 15 rollovers since Wednesday April 8, when a New Jersey ticket netted $190 million. The lucky West Virginia player is also the first jackpot winner since Powerball implemented new rules to scrap the minimum starting jackpot and minimum rollover amounts. The move came in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, which has made it more difficult for Americans to visit stores and purchase lottery tickets, which has had a knock-on effect on available prize funds.

Initially, the starting jackpot was dropped to $20 million from $40 million, before the fixed minimum was scrapped altogether. However, the jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing is confirmed to be $20 million.

West Virginia Lottery Winners

West Virginia has been a part of Powerball since it began in 1992. During that time, the West Virginia Lottery has donated more than $3 billion from lottery receipts to schools in the state. The latest winner becomes the ninth player from the region to hit the top Powerball prize. The biggest West Virginia Powerball win so far is the $314 million that Jack Whittaker won in December 2002. At the time, his was the largest ever US lottery prize won on a single ticket.

As well as the lucky West Virginia Powerball winner, more than 7,000 people in the state won prizes in Wednesday’s drawing. Across the 45 states that play Powerball, as well as Puerto Rico, Washington DC and the U.S. Virgin Islands, there were nearly half a million winning tickets.
