West Virginia Couple Claim $1 Million Powerball Prize

West Virginia Couple Claim $1 Million Powerball Prize

Tim and Jo Varca of Shinnston, West Virginia, are the lucky winners of a $1 million Powerball prize. The couple managed to match five numbers in the drawing on Saturday April 29th, having bought their ticket from the Go Mart gas station, located in Shinnston.

The winning numbers were 22, 23, 24, 45 and 62 with Powerball 5 and there were no jackpot winners on the night. Tim and Jo Varca were the only ticket holders to Match 5 numbers without the Power Play option to win a $1 million prize.

The Varcas were in shock having found out that they had won a seven-figure prize and Tim Varca commented on their win saying: "I thought [I won] $100 or something like that. I got on a site somewhere and it said $1 million. I kinda turned white."

The couple also shared their plans for the winnings, with Tim adding, "well, we are going to pay a few bills, maybe take another European vacation, and probably invest the rest."

Go Mart, the gas station where the ticket was bought, will also receive a vendor bonus of $10,000 for making the sale.

This win was the first Match 5 Powerball win to come from a ticket sold in West Virginia since January, when Tommy and Martha Robinson of Princeton stepped forward to claim $2 million.

Tickets for the next Powerball draw are available from authorized retailers in participating states and jurisdictions or players can opt to choose their numbers online.
