Two Winning Tickets Split $632 Million Powerball Jackpot

Two Winning Tickets Split $632 Million Powerball Jackpot

Two lucky players matched all the winning Powerball numbers in the latest drawing on Wednesday January 5, splitting a jackpot worth $632 million. One of the winning tickets was sold in California, and the other in Wisconsin.

The winning numbers for January 5 were 6, 14, 25, 33 and 46, with a Powerball of 17. There were more than 3 million winning entries, and you can see all the payouts on the Numbers page.

There had not been a winner of the jackpot for three months, going back to the $699 million win from October 4, and the value of the grand prize increased sharply ahead of the latest drawing following a rush for tickets.

It climbed more than $70 million from $561 million in the previous drawing on Monday, and two players received the ultimate reward when they matched all the winning numbers.

One ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven at 6591 Wyndham Drive, adjacent to the Kaiser Permanente campus in South Sacramento, California. The location of the winning Wisconsin ticket has yet to be disclosed.

The California winner has one year to come forward and claim their $316 million share of the money, while the Wisconsin ticket holder has 180 days. They will also have to decide whether to take their portion as a lump sum or as an annuity over 29 years.

As well as the two jackpot winners, there were 12 winners in the Match 5 category. Two of those players - one in Florida and one in Georgia - added the Power Play option so their payout was boosted to $2 million.

The latest jackpot win ranks as the seventh-largest of all time. The record still stands at $1.6 billion, which was split between three ticket holders back in January 2016.

A number of other Powerball players have also enjoyed a great start to 2022, including Brian Mineweaser from Pennsylvania, who became the first millionaire of the year in a special promotion. A ticket holder from Florida also banked the $10 million Double Play jackpot on New Year’s Day.

The Powerball jackpot will now reset to $20 million for the next drawing on Saturday, with draws continuing three times a week.
