Powerball Jackpot Hits $550 Million

Powerball Jackpot Hits $550 Million

The Powerball jackpot has stormed past the half-a-billion mark after nobody won the top prize in Wednesday night’s drawing. With $550 million now ready to be toppled on Saturday, will anyone get lucky?

Wednesday’s Powerball Numbers

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot of $460.9 million ranked as the seventh largest of all time, and the numbers drawn were 2, 18, 37, 39 and 42, with Powerball 12. The biggest winner of the night was the ticket holder from California who matched all five main numbers to bank $3.2 million. Players from Florida, North Carolina, New York and Oregon also matched five numbers to win $1 million each.

The Californian win was larger because state law dictates prizes are based on ticket sales and the number of other winners, rather than being fixed amounts as elsewhere. A Match 5 winner from Florida, who had added Power Play to their entry, won $2 million.

In total there were more than 3 million winners and you can visit the Powerball Numbers page to see more about the latest results.

Saturday’s Huge Jackpot

The Powerball jackpot is now expected to grow by almost $100 million for the next drawing on Saturday, which puts it as the sixth biggest prize ever to have been offered on the game. The cash value of the $550 million jackpot is $347.9 million, and if there is a winner they will have to decide whether to take the one-off payment or the annuity option.

The jackpot has been building since a small family syndicate won $191.1 million on Wednesday October 25th, and is now threatening to break even more records. The last time the jackpot was at this sort of level was back in August, when it went from $432.5 million to $541.9 million in the next drawing, before $758.7 million was finally won in the following game.

Mavis Wanczyk from Massachusetts came forward to claim the prize, becoming the biggest ever winner on a single ticket. The current jackpot could eclipse the $758 million mark if there is one more draw without a winner while, if it rolls just two more times, the billion-dollar barrier could could be hit.

The record Powerball jackpot stands at $1.58 billion and dates back to January 2016, when three tickets split the extraordinary sum.

All these records could be broken in the next couple of weeks, but players entering Saturday’s draw will hope the jackpot falls to them at the earliest possible opportunity. Good luck!
