New Hampshire Player Wins $559.7 Million Powerball Jackpot

A Powerball player from New Hampshire has become one of the biggest winners in the game’s history after matching all five main numbers plus the Powerball on Saturday January 6th. The lucky participant bought their ticket in Merrimack, just south of Concord, and ended up winning a sensational $559.7 million.

Powerball Numbers

Saturday’s winning numbers were 12, 29, 30, 33 and 61, with Powerball 26. There were over 4 million prizes given away in total, with seven players picking up $1 million each after matching five main numbers. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to see more details about the payouts.

The night belonged to New Hampshire, though, as the Granite State celebrated its 11th jackpot winner. “We’ve had two of those now in two years, which is just beyond fun,” said the New Hampshire Lottery’s executive director Charlie McIntyre, thinking back to the $487 million prize won on July 30th 2016.

The ticket for Saturday’s drawing was sold at Reeds Ferry Market, which is a small independent convenience store on Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack but has still delivered a lot of winners in the past. According to store owner Sam Safa, it is one of the top 10 retailers in the state.

Safa is now looking forward to finding out more about the latest winner, saying: “Feeling great, very excited, a little overwhelmed. A lot of thoughts in my head. A lot of phone calls, a lot of visits. It's a great feeling today."

Powerball Winners

The $559.7 million jackpot had a cash value of around $352 million, and the lucky winner can decide whether they want to take the one-off lump sum or the full amount in 30 annual installments. They have up to a year from the date of the draw to come forward.

The jackpot had not previously been won since Wednesday October 25th, and the long run of rollovers had created the sixth-largest Powerball prize of all time. Only two of those bigger jackpots were won by single tickets, with Mavis Wanczyk from Massachusetts landing $758.7 in August 2017 to eclipse the $590.5 million won by Florida’s Gloria MacKenzie in May 2013.

The Powerball jackpot will now reset to $40 million for the next drawing on Wednesday, giving players another chance to become multimillionaires.
