Powerball First Millionaire of the Year Contest 2023 Announced

This New Year’s, one Powerball player will become the first millionaire of 2023 on a TV broadcast live from New York’s Times Square. Could you be the lucky winner?

MRC Live & Alternative and Powerball have announced that the exciting "Powerball First Millionaire of the Year" promotion is back for its fourth year in 2023. One lucky winner will be randomly selected from a group of five finalists in a drawing held just after midnight live on "Dick Clark's New Year’s Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2023", the top-rated ABC TV broadcast.

Powerball players from across the country have the chance to participate for their chance to win the $1 million grand prize. There are also opportunities to win state-level prizes.

This year’s competition is extra-special because finalists will be back in New York in person for the first time since 2019. "We're excited to have our players return to New York City for this truly once-in-a-lifetime experience." said May Scheve Reardon, Powerball Product Group Chair. "This has become a powerhouse partnership between Powerball and MRC Live & Alternative to be able to showcase the exhilarating moment of a new millionaire every New Year."

How to Enter

Each participating lottery will hold its own local contest to select a semi-finalist, so if you live in one of the jurisdictions below, contact your local lottery about how to enter.

This year, 30 lotteries nationwide are part of the promotion: Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana (Hoosier), Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Lottery has already announced its semi-finalist, Amy Lynn Hughes of Wind Lake. She won out from a field of 21,000 "Winsconsin" entries on April 25. "Congratulations to Amy on being a finalist for the Powerball First Millionaire of the Year," Wisconsin Lottery Director Cindy Polzin said. "Wisconsin has a long history of producing Powerball winners and we wish Amy all the best."

Out of the pool of 30 local winners from across the country, five national finalists will be randomly selected who will each take part in a fully-paid trip to NYC for two people, with an estimated value of $29,260.

The VIP vacation experience package includes travel, three nights in a Times Square hotel, $1,000 spending money, the chance to take in a Broadway show or Hudson River cruise, and of course, attending the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve party in Times Square on December 31.

Just after the ball drops in Times Square to ring in 2023, one of the five finalists will be randomly drawn as the First Powerball Millionaire of the Year.
