New York Player Wins $94 Million Powerball Jackpot

New York Player Wins $94 Million Powerball Jackpot

A Powerball player from New York won a jackpot worth more than $94 million in the latest drawing on Wednesday September 16. The top prize had previously gone nine straight drawings without a winner.

The winning numbers for September 16 were 10, 17, 31, 51 and 53, with a Powerball of 1. The Power Play number was 2x, and there were 424,761 winning tickets across all the different prize categories. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to see all the payouts.

Only one entry matched all the numbers, and it was quickly revealed that it was sold at Minogue’s Beverage Center on Route 9 in Ballston Spa, near Saratoga Springs. It is the 12th time that the jackpot has been won in the Empire State.

It has been revealed that the winner played a Quick Pick rather than choosing their own numbers, but nothing else will be known about the lucky player until they come forward to claim the money.

They have one year to claim their prize, and will then have to decide whether they wish to take the jackpot as an annuity or receive a cash lump sum of $75.7 million.

As well as the jackpot winner, it was a great night for one ticket holder from Texas who matched all five white balls. They missed the Powerball but had selected the Power Play option, so their $1 million prize was instantly doubled to $2 million.

The Powerball jackpot has now been won seven times since the start of the year. The most recent winner prior to Wednesday night was William Kruger from Lantana in Palm Beach County, Florida. He won $168 million on August 12 and claimed his money after putting his ticket in a secure drop box.

The biggest jackpot of 2020 came back in January when another ticket sold in Florida matched all the numbers. The top prize of $396 million was paid out to a group known as the Vacation Life LLC.

The jackpot for the next drawing on Saturday night will stand at $20 million. Get your entries in and then check the results straight afterwards to see if you have become the latest big winner.
