New York Player Scoops $298 Million Jackpot

A Powerball player from New York is celebrating after becoming an overnight multimillionaire following the Boxing Day drawing on Wednesday 26th December. The lucky ticket holder matched all six drawn numbers to scoop the incredible nine-figure windfall. The win brings a run of 16 successive rollovers to an end.

Jackpot Winner from New York

The winning numbers were 5, 25, 38, 52, 67 and Powerball 24, and the jackpot winner was the only player on the night to match all six numbers. They are the ninth jackpot winner to come from New York since they joined the multi-state lottery. There were 842,012 winners overall, including three ticket holders who matched five numbers, just missing out on a share of the jackpot themselves after failing to land the Powerball.

Players in New York cannot remain anonymous, so the identity of the latest jackpot recipient will be revealed when they come forward to claim their winnings. The winner has one year from the date of the drawing in which to do so, and they also have to decide what to do with their winnings.

At this time of the year, they could treat themselves with an extravagant shopping spree, or take their time in deciding how best to spend their recently acquired winnings. Whatever choice they make, all Powerball jackpot winners are advised to seek financial advice for managing the large sum of money that comes their way.

16 Rollovers Brought to an End

The Powerball jackpot was last won on Saturday 27th October by two ticket holders in Iowa and New York, who shared a $687 million ticket. Those lucky players, 67-year-old Robert Bailey and 51-year-old Lerynne West received $343 million each. New Yorker Bailey revealed he had been playing the same line of numbers for 25 consecutive years, and both winners chose to take the cash lump sum worth $198 million rather than the annuity option.

Following this big win right at the end of the year, the jackpot will automatically reset to $40 million ahead of the drawing this Saturday. You can see if you can round off the year in style by picking your numbers from any licensed retailer across any one of the participating states. Good luck in the drawing!
