Powerball Jackpot of $842 Million Goes to Michigan Player

It was quickly announced that the jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Michigan, making it the state’s sixth grand prize. The Michigan Lottery later revealed that the entry had been purchased at the Food Castle in Grand Blanc, just south of Flint.

The winner has one year from the draw date to come forward and claim their prize, so it may be some time before more information is disclosed. They will have the choice of taking the money as an annuity or as a lump sum worth $425.2 million.

It may be that the lucky player is still in the dark about their big win, if they haven’t gotten round to checking their ticket yet. At such a busy time of year, remember to take a moment or two to find out if you’ve won, otherwise you might miss out on a great prize.

The jackpot had been building for more than two months, ever since a Californian landed $1.76 billion on October 11 to become Powerball’s second-biggest winner of all time.

That gigantic payout was also the second billion-plus win in a row, after another Californian pocketed a 10-figure sum back in July.

It looked as though the jackpot might climb back past $1 billion for a third consecutive time after jumping up quickly between draws in the run-up to the holiday season, but it has now come tumbling down just short of that figure.

There have now been six jackpots won since the start of 2023. The first was worth $754 million and went to Becky Bell from Washington, before an anonymous player from Virginia picked up $162 million and The Crazy Luck Trust from Ohio won £252 million. After that came the two Californian wins of more than $1 billion.
