Powerball Jackpot Climbs Past $300 Million

The winning numbers for Wednesday night were 12, 30, 59, 65 and 69, with Powerball 16. The Power Play number was 5x, and there were over half a million winners in total across the country. The prizes spanned from $4 for matching just the Powerball to $250,000 for the four players who matched four numbers plus the Powerball and also included the Power Play option.

What is Power Play?

The four players who picked up $250,000 last night could thank the Power Play of 5x for their success. There were 13 other participants who matched four numbers plus the Powerball, but they each received a payout of $50,000 - $200,000 less – after opting not to include Power Play.

Power Play costs an additional $1 but it does have the power to increase any non-jackpot prize. Depending on which Power Play number is drawn, your prize will be multiplied by two, three, four or five times. A 10x multiplier is also possible when the jackpot is worth $150 million or less. The only exception is the Match 5 prize, which automatically doubles from $1 million to $2 million regardless of which Power Play number is selected.

Power Play is available in all participating states apart from California, where state laws dictate that prizes must be pari-mutuel.

A Growing Jackpot

The Powerball jackpot typically starts to grow more quickly once it passes the $300 million mark, and it may only take two or three more rollovers for the current top prize to enter into the ranks of the biggest ever jackpots.

Currently at No. 6 on the list is the New Hampshire winner from January 6th, who has gone to court in a bid to preserve her anonymity.

If you reckon the jackpot might be won in Saturday’s drawing, you can buy tickets from authorized retailers in participating states.
