PowerBall XTRA Rules

PowerBall XTRA is really easy to play but you need to be aware of all the rules and how it fits in with PowerBall. Find out all the conditions of playing these SA lotteries.

PowerBall XTRA Rules

It's only possible to play PowerBall XTRA as an add-on along with the main PowerBall game. Ticket sales close at 20:30 SAST on draw days.

Your numbers from the main game are entered into PowerBall XTRA, giving you another chance to win. A completely separate draw takes place, with five winning numbers selected from 1 to 50, along with a PowerBall from 1 to 16.

PowerBall XTRA has all the same prize divisions as PowerBall. The prize fund is generally smaller because fewer players take part and the cost of entry is lower, but the final payout values are mostly dependent on the number of winners so they can sometimes be higher than for the main draw. The jackpot rolls over for each draw it is not won until the end of each month, when a Jackpot Cascade takes place: all the money in the pool is rolled down to the winners in the prize tiers below.

PowerBall XTRA used to be known as PowerBall Plus, but was changed in June 2026. Besides the name change, the number of balls in the PowerBall pool was reduced, making it easier to match the PowerBall number.
