You can play Powerball from any National Lottery retailer. If you don’t have any specific numbers you want to enter, then all you need to do is go to the counter and say:

"Please can I have a lucky dip for Powerball?"

You will then get a Lucky Dip for the next Powerball draw and you can pay your £4 and be on your way. A Lucky Dip is a random set of numbers generated by the machine, meaning you don’t have to pick your own. Likewise, if you want more than one entry, just ask for however many Lucky Dips it is you wish to purchase.

The shop clerk may ask you if its for the next draw, or if you want multiple entries on more than one ticket. Here you can choose whether you want to play in a specific draw, or if you want to split the entries between multiple tickets (e.g. two tickets with a single line on, instead of a single ticket with two lines on). If you aren’t bothered by either of those then just say “No thank you” an continue with your entry.

Play at an Authorized Retailer

If you want to take advantage of picking your own numbers, specific draws or multi-draws, then your best option is to pick up a play slip and fill it out. Follow the steps below:

How To Fill Out A Ticket

Retailer

Find the lottery stand in a National Lottery retailer. It will most likely have the lottery branding on, and you will see multiple paper slips and a pen on the stand.

Pick your Powerball numbers

Draw a black line through the box of the number you want added onto your entry, effectively marking it out. That’s how the machine its fed into reads the numbers. Do this for five numbers in the main section, then one Powerball in the other section. Filling in more than the allowed amount of numbers will void the ticket.

Consecutive draws

Choose whether you want to enter them into a specific draw day (Monday, Wednesday or Saturday) or if you want to enter them into multiple draws in a row. These options are on the side of the ticket. If left blank, your numbers will all be entered into the next upcoming draw.

Buy Ticket

Pay for your tickets and keep them safe. It will cost you £4 per line, per draw (e.g. two lines in two consecutive draws would be £16). You should sign the back of your ticket as if the ticket is a winner and its not signed, whoever finds it can claim to be the rightful winner. If it has a name on it, it can only be claimed by the winning player.

In the USA there are multiple other options that users can add on their ticket. Some states have Double Play, which is an additional draw that your ticket is entered into to win more prizes, and the majority of states offer Power Play which multiples non-jackpot winning tickets by up to 10x. Neither of these options are available in the UK.

How to Play Powerball Online

You can also play Powerball online, and not just from a retailer. The steps are largely the same, but playing online has its advantages in that you can never lose your ticket, and you will always be paid your winnings as the claims process is automatic. Playing Online in the UK

Create account

Click any banner on Powerball.net to be taken to an operator. Here you then need to create account, however you can do this step at the end once you’ve added your tickets to your basket.

Pick your Powerball numbers

Select your numbers by tapping on five numbers from 1 to 69 and a single Powerball from 1 to 26. If you don’t want to pick your numbers, then look for the Quick Pick/Lucky Dip text or an icon that looks like a magic wand. That will give you a random line.

Select whether or not to use Power Play

Pick if you want to enter multiple draws or not. After that you’ll need to add funds to your account to buy your tickets, and then your purchase can be completed.

Select whether or not to use Power Play

Wait for the draw to take place and check the results. This isn’t compulsory as you will win regardless of if you check the results or not, but it adds to the excitement!

Select whether or not to use Power Play

You will get an email notification saying you have won a prize. You can also manually check your account as any winning tickets will be labelled and prizes paid into your account once the results have been confirmed.
