Record-Breaking Missouri Powerball Winner Claims Prize
A Missouri Powerball player won half of the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot on Sept. 6 and is now claiming to have sleepless nights. In their own words, the Powerball jackpot win is the best problem they’ve ever had.
The Winning Ticket
The anonymous winner—likely to remain anonymous for good—won the Powerball with numbers 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, as well as a Powerball of 17.
Using a Quick Pick ticket purchased at QuikTrip 12100 Lusher Road in St. Louis, the winning ticket was one of only two to match all six numbers of this particular draw. This highlights not only that the Powerball jackpot can be won by any player but also the value of Quick Pick. When claiming the prize at Missouri Lottery HQ in Jefferson City, the lucky winner noted his disbelief at this unthinkable turn of events.
The two winning ticketholders received about $893.5 million in cash before tax, and had the usual option of claiming the full prize amount over 30 payments but ultimately chose the lump sum option. This decision netted both players approximately half the jackpot each.
The winner claims to be a “homebody” and that the “perfect day is sitting at home doing what I do – relaxing.” Nobody can blame the winner for taking some time out, even if they fear their wife dragging them out of town.
Previous Powerball Jackpot Winners
There had previously been four winning Powerball jackpots so far in 2025, the most recent of which was a $204.5 million payday in California on May 31. Three other jackpots included a $167 million winner in Kentucky on April 26, a $526.5 million dollar winner on March 29 in California, and a $328.5 million winner in Oregon on January 18.
Only three of the five biggest jackpot winners have been identified, with California’s Edwin Castro holding the title for largest Powerball win in history and opting for the one-time payout of $997.6 million.
The prize claimed this week is the largest lottery payout in Missouri history, and the 42-draw jackpot run raised $16.9 million for Missouri public education. Businesses in The Show-Me State raised around $2.5 million in commissions for selling the game. QuikTrip, where the winning ticket was sold, got a $50,000 bonus for being the one to sell the ticket. Good news all around.
The winner informs news outlets that despite being a millionaire and a multi-millionaire he’s still doing his own laundry.
What’s Next For Powerball?
Meanwhile, Powerball rolls on. Nobody knows who the next big winner could be, and for only $2 per play — with the exception of Idaho and Montana where Power Play is included in the ticket price for a minimum $3 ticket purchase – you can take part. Order your tickets online through a courier here (in some states), go to your local retailer, or even use the Lottery App.
Draws take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 PM ET in 45 states, as well as Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. You can pick up a playslip from your local lottery retailer or take your chance with the Quick Pick like September 6th’s winner.
