North Carolina To Bring In Powerball Double Play

Described by the North Carolina Lottery as an ‘exciting new feature’, Double Play has already proved to be very popular across many other locations in the U.S., and now players in the Tar Heel State will have ‘double the reasons’ to take part, according to the lottery’s news release.

How Double Play Works

It couldn’t be simpler to add Double Play to a standard Powerball ticket. There’s an option on the playslip which you can select if you want to include Double Play, and that’s it! It costs an extra $1 per play, and then your numbers from the main Powerball game are also entered into Double Play.

The Double Play draw takes place shortly after the main draw. A separate set of numbers is selected at random and you win prizes by matching the ones you have played to the ones that are drawn.

Instead of a rolling jackpot, there’s a fixed top prize of $10 million in each draw. Most of the other payouts are actually larger in Double Play than they are in the main Powerball draw. For example, matching the Powerball on its own is worth $7, compared to $4 in the standard game. Go to the Double Play page for full prize details.

Adding Double Play boosts your odds of winning considerably, and you can even win prizes on both draws if the combination of numbers drawn is lucky for you.  

Where is Double Play Available?

Double Play was launched in August 2021 as an optional feature, and only a few states decided to introduce it at the earliest opportunity. Since then it has expanded to the point where it is now available in more than half of the participating states.

Kansas became the 25th state to bring in Double Play when it added the game ahead of the September 22 drawing, and now North Carolina is following suit.
