Tennessee Ticket Wins $198 Million Powerball Jackpot

A Powerball player from Tennessee matched all the numbers in Saturday night’s drawing to pocket a jackpot of $198 million, becoming the first winner of the top prize since June 1st.

The winning numbers for July 13th were 13, 23, 32, 35 and 68, with Powerball 21. There were more than 670,000 winning tickets across all the different prize levels, with payouts ranging from $4 to millions of dollars.

The Tennessee Lottery quickly announced that it had sold the only jackpot-winning ticket of the night, later revealing that the entry was bought in Hendersonville in Sumner County.

What We Know About The Winner

The winner has not yet come forward to claim their prize, but they have been advised by lottery officials to sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they are ready to make contact.

They have 180 days from the date of the drawing to come forward, so they could wait until January 9th 2020. They may wish to consult with a financial advisor before claiming their prize and should call the Tennessee Lottery ahead of their visit to the Nashville headquarters.

The winner will be able to choose between taking the full $198 million as an annuity over 29 years, or a reduced lump sum of around $128 million. There are no state taxes on lottery prizes in Tennessee but a federal withholding will be applied.

The Tennessee Lottery regards major lottery prizes as a matter of public record, so the lucky player’s identity - name and town of residence - will be disclosed. It is the seventh time that a Powerball jackpot has been won in the Volunteer State since it joined the game in 2004.

Big Tennessee Wins

The largest prize ever won in Tennessee came back in the record-breaking drawing of January 2016, when John and Lisa Robinson of Munford claimed a third of the extraordinary $1.58 billion jackpot. A group of 20 co-workers from Portland also landed $420 million in November 2016.

The jackpot had rolled over 11 times prior to Saturday night’s drawing, following Charles W. Jackson’s $344 million win at the start of June. The 66-year-old from North Carolina came forward in a matter of days and revealed that he planned to donate money to several charities close to his heart.

It remains to be seen what the latest winner from Tennessee plans to do with their money, but there will be another chance to become a multimillionaire when the next draw takes place on Wednesday evening. Grab your tickets and remember to check the Powerball Numbers straight after the draw.
