Powerball Jackpot Keeps Rising After Blasting Past $1 Billion

Back on January 1, a player from Michigan matched all the numbers to win a grand prize worth $842 million. It was the fifth-largest Powerball jackpot ever won, but just three months later it has already been eclipsed by a 10-figure prize.

The jackpot actually broke through the billion-dollar barrier in time for Monday night’s drawing - offering $1.026 billion to be exact - but nobody was quite able to match all the winning numbers. Those all-important numbers were 19, 24, 40, 42 and 56, with a Powerball of 23. The Power Play on the night was 2X.

Go to the Prize Payouts page to discover details of all the wins at each level, including the six ticket holders who banked $1 million after matching five main numbers without the Powerball. Those millionaires were created in Florida, Maryland (2), Minnesota, North Carolina and Virginia.

After the latest draw without a winner, the estimated jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing is $1.09 billion, with a cash option of $527.3 million. Those values could potentially go up even more if there is a late surge of ticket sales.

The jackpot will continue to rise until it is won, as there is no limit to how high it can go. In November 2022, the grand prize tipped over $2 billion for the first time in history, ultimately finishing on $2.04 billion when Edwin Castro from California matched all the numbers.

Since then, two more lucky tickets - both sold in California - have also landed jackpots of more than $1 billion. A group of players, represented by Theodorus Struyck, recently claimed the $1.76 billion prize that was won on October 11, 2023. A jackpot of $1.08 billion dating back to July 19 currently remains unclaimed.

Depending on where the next winner is located, they may be able to claim the prize anonymously, otherwise their identity will have to be disclosed. Claim periods and tax obligations also vary by state.
