Powerball Double Play Option To Be Added by the Iowa Lottery

Last week, the Iowa Lottery announced that Double Play, a Powerball add-on feature, will be added to tickets. They are hoping to be able to launch this option in mid-September 2023.

The Double Play option is an additional Powerball game which gives participants the opportunity to win prizes along the main drawing. It costs $1 to add it to your ticket.

This feature was launched in August 2021 and it is only available in certain states. The Double Play jackpot has a fixed amount of $10 million. Besides the jackpot, there are eight other prize tiers.

At the moment, Powerball players can add the Double Play to their tickets only in 17 lottery jurisdictions. These states are: Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Washington. The latest state which was added to this list was New Mexico.

An Iowa Lottery spokesperson, Mary Neubauer, talked about the Powerball feature being added: "It allows you to enter the same set of numbers that you bought for the Powerball drawing into a second chance drawing afterward where the top prize would be ten million dollars, and there would be smaller prizes on down the line."

It has not been confirmed yet when the Powerball add-on feature will be launched.

Neubauer explained: "There's testing and things that we have to do, but we are shooting hopefully for mid-September to have that ready to go."

Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 10:59 PM EST so make sure you enter in the next draw for a chance to win. And, if you are playing from any of the 17 lottery jurisdictions, add Double Play to your ticket. Don’t forget to check your tickets after every draw takes place.
