Maryland Player Wins $731 Million Powerball Jackpot

A player from Maryland has won the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot in history after scooping $731 million in Wednesday night’s drawing.

The jackpot had gone 35 drawings without being won since September 16 last year, making it the longest run of all time. The grand prize started at $20 million and increased quicker and quicker as the weeks went by, culminating in one of the most eagerly-awaited drawings ever.

The winning numbers for Wednesday, January 20 were 40, 53, 60, 68 and 69, with a Powerball of 22. The draw created more than 4.4 million winners in total, including the single ticket holder from Maryland who matched all the numbers.

There were 12 players who matched all five main numbers without the Powerball to win $1 million each. Another player, also from Maryland, added the Power Play option to their ticket to double their Match 5 prize to $2 million. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to see all the prize payouts.

Biggest Win in Maryland

The Maryland jackpot winner will receive the biggest payout ever seen in the Old Line State. They have 182 days to come forward and claim their prize, and will be able to choose between taking the jackpot amount as an annuity or the cash option of $546 million.

One of the first big decisions they will have to make is whether to go public or stay anonymous. Maryland is one of the few states where you are allowed to keep your identity private if you win.

There have only been three bigger prizes given out in the history of Powerball. The record came back in January 2016 when three ticket holders split $1.58 billion. Manuel Franco from Wisconsin landed $768 million in March 2019 to become the game’s biggest winner on a single ticket, eclipsing the $758 million won by Mavis Wanczyk of Massachusetts in August 2017.

The Maryland winner fits in beneath these three jackpots in the list of the biggest wins of all time.

The jackpot for the next drawing on Saturday will be back at $20 million. Get your tickets ready now and check the results on the Powerball Numbers to see if you are a winner.
