Arizona Player Wins $473 Million Powerball Jackpot

A Powerball player from Arizona won a jackpot of $473 million in the latest drawing on Wednesday April 27th. They became the first ticket holder to match all the numbers since someone from Connecticut won on Valentine’s Day.

The winning numbers for April 27th were 11, 36, 61, 62 and 68, while the Powerball was 4. As well as the jackpot, there were more than 1.4 million other prizes paid out. One player from Indiana matched all five main numbers without the Powerball to land $1 million.

Arizona’s 14th Grand Prize

Arizona has now had 14 jackpot winners since joining Powerball in April 1994, two years after the game’s launch. It ranks as the ninth most successful state, and the latest win is the biggest one ever seen in the Grand Canyon State.

It has been announced that the winning ticket was sold at a QuikTrip in the town of Gilbert. The winner now has 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize. They also have the right to stay anonymous if they wish.

Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar offered his congratulations to the winner, who will be able to choose between $473 million as an annuity or a cash sum of $283.2 million.

“We are excited to celebrate this huge $473.1 million Powerball jackpot win for one very lucky Arizonan,” said Edgar. “This is the biggest ever jackpot won on a single ticket in our state, and it is a life-changing moment for this winner. It also means millions of dollars to our state’s economy, to this winner’s community, and to the vital programs and services funded by Arizona Lottery ticket sales.”

The jackpot had been growing quickly ahead of the drawing. The grand prize for Wednesday had initially been estimated at $454 million, but was increased due to strong ticket sales. There had been $434 million up for grabs in the previous drawing on Monday.

There have now been four winners of the grand prize in 2022. The Connecticut winner on February 14th pocketed $185 million, while a $632 million jackpot on January 5th was split between players from California and Wisconsin.

The jackpot will now reset to $20 million for the next drawing on Saturday. Make sure to pick up a ticket, and you can use the Powerball Checker afterwards to find out if you have won.
