Powerball Launches First Millionaire of the Year Promotion for 2021

One lucky player will win $1 million just a few minutes into 2021 after a new competition was launched to create the first Powerball millionaire of the year. More than 25 state lotteries are set to take part, giving ticket holders the chance to travel to New York for a VIP trip on New Year’s Eve.

How the 2021 Competition Works

To be in with a chance of becoming a millionaire at the turn of the year, you will need to submit an entry via your participating lottery. The exact method will vary by state, but it will involve entering a non-winning ticket into a Second Chance drawing. In Indiana, for example, you just need an online account and you can then type in the game code from your Powerball ticket.

Your state lottery will select a pre-determined number of winners from all of the entries submitted by the deadline. States will offer their own awards to these winners.

If you are chosen by your state, you will then be entered into a national draw to select five finalists. If you are a finalist, you will be able to choose between two prize packages this year.

You can accept a luxury trip for two people to New York. This will include VIP accommodation, spending money, entertainment packages and exclusive dinners, plus a variety of other activities. All expenses will be paid for you.

Alternatively, you can have a party at home if you would prefer not to travel to New York. If you select this option, you will receive a $12,5000 cash prize, deluxe dinner for eight, a 70 inch LED TV, a karaoke system and more.

Regardless of which option you choose, you will also be entered into the draw for the first millionaire of the year. This will be made just after midnight during the live broadcast of ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021’. The winner will receive $1 million.

Go to the page about the First Powerball Millionaire of the Year promotion to find out more information, including a list of all the participating states. You will also need to check with your state lottery for the date when the competition is running where you live and the precise entry details.

2020 Winner

The promotion took place for the first time last year. It was run jointly by Powerball and Dick Clark Productions and climaxed in the early hours of 2020. The competition worked in a similar way, with winners from different states invited to attend ‘Rockin Eve’. The ‘stay at home party’ is a new option for the upcoming event.

Blaine Marston from Maine was randomly selected as the winner of the $1 million prize, becoming the first millionaire of the year. He said it felt ‘unreal’, like he was dreaming, while the event was hailed as ‘historic’ by Powerball’s Product Group Chairman Gregory R. Mineo.

Powerball has created lots more millionaires since Mineo and will also be bringing in 2021 in style, so get your entries in now for the chance to land the next seven-figure payout.
